TRAINING

New Entry

A New Entry is a a cadet who has just joined the corp and is learning basic drill and information about the sea cadet movement. A new entry will be assigned a senior cadet who will introduce them to everyone and everything that they need to know to fully participate as a cadet during their first few weeks.

Phase 1

Phase 1 typically takes place during a cadet's first year in the corp. A variety of tasks will take place including classes or activities focusing on citizenship, community service, sailing, drill, recreational sports, firing an air rifle, basic knotwork and team building and participation in a divisional seamanship competition.

Phase 2

Phase II typically takes place during a cadet's second year in the corp. Required tasks will build upon the activities and lessons in Phase 1 and also include sailing, leadership classes, learning boatswain calls and rigging tackles. Recommended activities include attending a Sea Cadet Summer Training Centre.

Phase 3 and 4

In Phase 3 and 4 cadets focus on learning how to be a team leader. They will continue to build upon the activities in Phase I and 2 and will begin to teach some classes under guidance and learn how to give drill commands.

Phase 5

Phase V cadets are the senior cadets who are called upon by the adult officers to lead classes and give instruction to younger cadets. They act as mentors to the other cadets and have a responsibility to lead by example as upstanding cadets and citizens.

Phase Training Resources

Current cadets can access training materials through their Cadet 365 accounts.
