What is the Navy League?

The Navy League of Canada was established in 1895 to promote an interest in Maritime Affairs generally throughout Canada. Today, The Navy League of Canada has a presence in over 260 Canadian communities. Our youth programs benefit 15,000 young Canadians every year, and we continue to grow. The Royal Canadian Sea Cadets is a youth program delivered in partnership by The Navy League of Canada and the Department of National Defense.

In Prince Rupert, the Navy League is made up of parents and other interested volunteers who wish to see the Captain Cook Sea Cadet Corp succeed. The Navy League is also the financial body that ensures that the cadets and officers have the facilities to meet and funds to pursue extra activities. Navy League Volunteers also sometimes assist with cadet activities and administrative work.

Donations:

There is no cost to join cadets, all uniforms and expenses for many of the training activities are covered, however, there are additional costs such as building maintenance, training materials and funding for additional activities and trips that cost above and beyond what is provided by the Federal Government. The Navy League works hard to provide funding for these activities, however this can not be done by fundraising alone.

We ask that each family give a donation to the Navy League each year to help cover these costs. Please give what you are able, the suggested amount is $100 or $150 per family if more than one family member is part of the corps. You can donate by dropping of a cheque (made out to Prince Rupert Navy League) or cash to the Navy League executive. Monthly donations (for example, $10 each month) are also welcome if you prefer not to give in a lump sum. Receipts are available upon request. This donation goes directly to the daily costs of cadet training, activities and building maintenance for our facility.

Other arrangements can be made to contribute to the Navy League in a non-monetary way. Fundraising opportunities throughout the year are also organized by the Navy League. Individuals interested in participating more fully in the Navy League can run for positions on the executive body including (but not limited to) Branch President, Treasurer, Fundraising Chief, Member at Large and Secretary. It is recommended that parents and guardians become members of the Navy League so that they can be kept up to date and help support the corps.
